Make Earth Hour Last All Year by Buying Vintage
On March 26th (tomorrow) millions of people around the world will turn off all their electricity between 8:30 and 9:30 to observe earth hour. For those of us who live in cities, downtown will feel like a super-hopeful Gotham city. This year earth hour organizers are asking us to go, “beyond the hour, [and] after the lights go back on think about what else you can do to make a difference.” Why not make a green commitment by buying vintage items? Buying pre-loved merchandise means that you have not contributed to an economy that produces new materials. It also saves tonnes of beautiful and historical items from the landfills.
Adria Vasil from Now Magazine recommends the Cynthia Findlay Collection as a place to find green friendly engagement rings. She writes, “Going the vintage route means no new metals had to be extracted and refined, and no new stones had to be bloodily yanked from the ground.” Antique engagement rings are not only environmental but ethical as well. If you’re still not convinced, one look at the unique antique styles will make you a vintage convert!
